Do Your Own Professional Quality Oriental Carpet Cleaning

Regular Oriental carpet cleaning will protect the beauty of your investment. As most oriental carpet cleaners will tell you, one of the best ways to maintain the quality of your carpet is by keeping it clean. Have your family members and guests remove their shoes before they come into the house. That way they won’t track grit and grime all over your carpet. If you don’t want to go barefoot, give your tired feet and your oriental carpet a break by keeping a pair of comfortable slippers by your door.
But eventually all floor coverings get dirty even when vacuumed regularly. You can see if your carpet needs a thorough cleaning by folding an edge and looking at the warp and weft at the base of the pile. When there visible dirt and grime, it is probably time for a thorough cleaning! If your carpet is small and not too dirty, you can do your own Oriental carpet cleaning using a mild rug shampoo. Here is a simple description of how to clean an Oriental rug:
1. Make sure you don’t use strong detergents on your rug: they can cause fading and unpredictable color changes! You should always check any cleaning solution on a small, unnoticeable section of your rug to ensure that it won’t cause the colors to run.
2. Find a clean surface to lay your rug on, like your garage floor, or an outdoor surface.
3. After you vacuum both sides of your rug, shampoo it. Brush gently through the carpet’s pile with a soft long-haired brush in the direction of the nap. The pile should be thoroughly wet with the detergent solution. You can clean the fringes with the same solution, brushing outward from the rug.
4. Rinse the rug until the water runs clear.
5. Squeeze out the excess solution from the rug by pushing the water out from the center of the run towards the edges with a squeegee (the same kind that is used to wash windows).
6. When the pile is dry, turn it over and allow the bottom to dry out. Use a fan to decrease drying time.
If your rug is large, or if you just don’t have the space in your house to clean it, you can have professional oriental carpet cleaners to do the job.
Another important aspect of Oriental carpet cleaning is taking care of spills right away. The longer they are on your rug the more likely they are to leave a permanent stain or odor. With urine or other liquid spills, blot up as much of the liquid as you can with rags or paper towels.
If the rug is small, rinse the whole thing with water and dry as described above. If the rug is big, try to rinse and dry just the affected area. With solid spills and feces, scrape up as much of it as possible before blotting. Then use a mild spot cleaning solution to clean the affected area.
